Location: Richmond and/or Petersburg, VA


Summary:
Manages all Associate Relations functions for a geographic area of the organization. The Associate Relations professional is a strategic business partner and a change agent within the business functions. Leads as an advocate for both the organization and the associate.

Responsibilities:
Business Partner Relationships:
Leads the execution of business priorities by building relationships with leadership from all of the company’s banners. Provides strategic and associate relations advisory services to assigned geographic groups. Collaborates to cause breakthrough thinking, maximize associate satisfaction and improve profitability and effectiveness of business units contributing to the success of the total organization.

Leadership:
The AR Business Partner role models the core values and guiding principles of Food Lion, LLC and promotes a culture of acknowledgment and respect for all. The AR Business Partner is a leader within the business team and maintains a positive representation of the Department of Human Resources and the organization through the incorporation of professionalism, integrity, objectivity and confidentiality in all aspects of the job.

Organizational and Associate Advocacy:
Leads and influences management personnel to own and fully support associate relations programs. Encourages resolving associate concerns by proper and fair administration of the Open Door Process, the Peer Review Process, EAP referrals, answering/referring benefit questions and communications. Counsels and coaches management in performance feedback, disciplinary actions, terminations, and sensitive associate issues. Builds trust and inspires others to own the future of Food Lion LLC.

Legal Compliance:
Partner with management, legal and outside consultants to ensure necessary compliance and develop positive, proactive relationships. Direct managers of assigned business teams in creating ownership and compliance with all federal and state laws and company policies including but not limited to: Safety, Wage and Hour, EEO, OSHA, ADA, Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, FMLA, etc. Investigate reported violations and provide necessary documentation and objective analysis. Advise appropriate personnel of corrective actions required.

Cross Organizational Collaborating and Teamwork:
Works with all functional areas to ensure consistent application and training of organizational initiatives. Provides training in performance management, harassment awareness, union avoidance, recruiting/interviewing, ADA/FMLA, working off the clock/FLSA/DOL, OSHA, progressive discipline, Open Door/Peer Review, and other associate related issues as needed. Facilitates learning groups to identify developmental opportunities. Builds alignment in assigned business unit to achieve results.

Development/Professional Growth:
Maintain and ensure self development and education in applicable legislation that impacts the retail work environment.

Stays abreast on industry trends and maintains active participation in professional curricular through the HRCI and other professional associations.

Travel:
Manages associate relations activities for approximately 4,100 associates (40-60 retail stores and/or distribution center). Daily travel and frequent overnight and weekend travel.


Requirements Qualifications:
Billingual Preferred
•Bachelor’s degree in related field
•Five to eight years of generalist experience in Human Resources or a business-related field
